Taylor felt nervous. The army slacks they had provided itched, the mask on her face itched, and a lot more people looked at her than she was comfortable with. There was Armsmaster and Miss Militia of course, and her dad, but also some doctors or scientists with measuring equipment, and to top it off, Triumph and Aegis of the Wards were there. Taylor did not like it one bit, but she had to do this. After this, she would be a hero for real!
As Armsmaster urged her on, she stepped into some kind of indoors gym slash boot camp. Climbable walls, sheets of metal, a sandbox and various other things all spread out haphazardly. She sighed, shook her head to focus, and got to business. She started off with an Earth Glide around the area, according to a machine the scientists used she moved at around 70 km/h, or 44 miles per hour. After a minute or so she stopped and walked up to a sturdy looking wooden door, like something you could see in movies about cops training breaching. Taylor threw her weight against the door with no effect, but when she activated her Structural Weakness, the door shattered after just one more push. Then she walked into the middle of the area, where something special had been placed, on her urging. A large dollhouse, with every window and door duct taped shut. Taylor put her hand on the roof of the dollhouse and activated Structure Map.
The first floor has four rooms: kitchen, entrance, living room and guest bedroom. The areas are 5, 6, 7 and 4 square inches. After the huge stairs you have the second floor, 6 bedrooms, one with a double bed, all beds occupied, and… That is a childish way to place dolls in a bed.
Taylor looked up, and one of the scientists was quickly turning red as his colleagues snickered. A loud cough from Armsmaster made all of them jump back to their equipment, and one of them gave Taylor a big thumbs up. Taylor looked up at all the onlookers, who were all expressionless, except for her father, of course, who mirrored the thumbs up. She walked up to one of the sheets of metal lying around, and put her hand on it, using Total Transformation. A piece fell off and flowed into the shape of a spear in Taylor’s hands, which she spun around, quite good she thought. Watching Emma’s baton practice had its perks apparently, she thought darkly as she moved on. She looked at the dollhouse, and suddenly it flew up as the ground beneath it sprouted a pillar of rock roughly 20 ft high.
She then turned to Armsmaster.
"I don’t know how powers are supposed to work, but I feel tired, I think I’ve reached like one third of what I can do without rest."
He was hard to read, but Taylor guessed he was a little surprised.
"Very well, rest for a moment, and then you can go with Doctor Yansen for your medical check up."
One of the scientists raised a hand, and Taylor looked at a smiling Asian woman in her forties.
The check up was a shock to Taylor, in more ways than one. For one, she was really fit, somehow. Sure, she was the same potbellied, scrawny teen she hated to see in the mirror, but she could run. Not like a Mover or anything, but she could easily keep up with the treadmill, something that she definitely could not just a couple of days earlier. Maybe there really was something to that high Constitution? Taylor had briefly dreamed about an even higher Constitution could mean, when Doctor Yensen had, with a stern voice, asked her why her father had accepted that she had that horrible tattoo done. Taylor had just looked at her in shock, and then rushed over to a big mirror in the corner of the room. She didn’t like looking at herself in the mirror, but now her searching eyes found something that made it clear that she should do that a whole lot more. Down low on her back, just above her ass, was a tribal-looking black tattoo placed. She had never seen it before, and she would have remembered getting it. She looked from the mirror to the doctor’s disapproving stare, and said the first thing that came to her mind.
"My powers gave me this tattoo!"
The doctor’s stare didn’t change, but a quizzical eyebrow was raised. Taylor felt somewhere deep inside that she was correct, and as she stared at the tattoo in the mirror she activated her Tremor Sense. Then she saw it. The tattoo moved! The gasp from the doctor told her that she had seen it too. Taylor was dismissed as the testing was done, and as she left she saw the doctor scribble furiously in her notepad as she lifted her phone from the desk. Taylor honestly felt that her powers just became stranger and stranger.
